sorry about all the cage questions but one more. Can I just use my old dog cage for a Guinea pig? I’m only gonna have one. What would the dimensions have to be?

I would say no. It would be too drafty and they can get sick that way. The best cage for a guinea pig is the Super Pet guinea pig cage. You need a solid bottom and ventelation, but not too much.

like the other person said put a picture on. the requirement for one piggie is 7.5 square foot.

It depends on the size 7.5sq ft for 1 guinea pig. Does it have a solid bottom? Where are you going to keep it? Is it safe for your guinea pig? Those are all question that you need to ask yourself. If you decide that it is fine then you will need to thoroughly clean it out, vinegar and a bit of water is good. Include a picture and I will add to my answer.

eh…I wouldn’t recomend it- ones with a solid bottom are better on their feet, and it would be too drafty. Also, I beg you to get him a companion for him/her; it’ll make them much more outgoing and friendly!

It depends. It could be big enough. The 7.5 sq feet turns out to be 30″ by 36″. I have a dog crate that would meet those measurements. However, by the time his igloo is in there and food dshes, there isn’t much room for him to play. It could be a decent temporary cage until you get the supplies to make an awesome C&C cage!
*If you get a baby piggie, you will have to baby proof the sides where he/she cannot get through the bars.

Dogs and even puppies are big compared to a piggie. If the wires are close enough together then it might be ok. if its big enough you could always attach hardware cloth ( a wire mesh about 1/4 ” holes) to the cage sides to keep your piggie inside.
If you can afford it , try your animal shelter, two piggies are much happier together (two males or two females ) unless you can spend a lot of time with it .
