border collies are great. so are golden retrievers. get a smart dog that won’t be hard to train and won’t bark like crazy at other dogs.
good dog names depend on the gender.

you should get the dog or if you hae the dog look at it for a few hours. find what its abilities are. like if a dog has a spot on its ear name it spot. if ur dog likes thunder storms name it thunder. my favorite dog breeds are great dane, they are actually very powerful, but very kind, doxen, they are small and easy to keep, just take my word and dont let it go under the couch! also labs are good. they are very playful if u pick out the right one.

there are no best dog breeds. it is the one you like. and a name is something you write, with you idea, but i would name it according to color, behaivor, or what it likes. so if it likes teddy bears and is brown, i would name it beat, if it was a male. but of course, i have no sense, and i dont know what you like.

First of all I am so sorry to hear about Elmo. Have you checked your local pound to see if he was picked up? Here is a great site with thousands of dog names.

is it male or female? personally i like mutts i had charlie for 13 yrs he looked like the dog from the movie all dogs go to heaven he was a shepard beagle mix best dog i had he passed on valentines day. i had a female dog when i was younger her name was bonnie other dogs i had were pookie he was a cockerspaniel poodle mix lucky i saved from the shelter rocky i adopted from the shelter and of course charlie i adopted from the shelter.
