It’s for a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy and out of the 2 Berneses we’ve had, we’ve named them Alpine and Avalanche. This one will be a male…Any suggestions?

Sherpa (shûr’p?)
Sher-(shûr’)sounds like shir in shirt. Pa-(p?)sounds like pu like in puddle.
The Sherpa (Tibetan:????? “eastern people”, from shar “east” + pa “people”) are an ethnic group from the most mountainous region of Nepal, high in the Himalayas. Sherpas migrated from eastern Tibet to Nepal within the last 500 years. A sherpa woman is known as a “sherpani”.
The term ’sherpa’ is also used to refer to local people, typically men, that are employed as guides for mountaineering expeditions in the Himalayas, particularly Mt. Everest. They are highly regarded as elite mountaineers and experts in their local terrain, as well as having good physical endurance and resilience to high altitude conditions. However, a sherpa is not necessarily a member of the Sherpa ethnic group. Sherpa generally act as porters on Everest expeditions.

There is a Copper mountain in CO and a Bear mountain in NY. Andy is also a good choice.

Since you all ready have two females, Alpine and Avalanche, you may want to name him “Survivor” since he will need to be one between the two females.
Seriously, Bermese Mountain Dogs are beautiful and husky, you may want to name him “Huskey” or “Titan”.
Hope this helps.

I was also thinking Ande (as in the Andes mountains). And I liked someone else’s suggestion of Drift. Or what about Zurich…it would certainly be a unique name. Maybe Emmental after the well-known Bernese cheese. Lenk, Thun, Muri, Eiger, and Kander would also be names relating to geographic locations in the Bernese part of Switzerland.

Bear seems to be a popular name with Berners in view that Bern is the Swiss name for Bear.
January 24th, 2009 at 2:06 amYou could also look at different Swiss/German human names as well. A breeder i know called one of hers Uschi.
I really wanted to call mine Brody, though we already have another dog with a similar name so couldn’t.
Have fun with your new bundle of fluff. They are so adorable when tiny.
