Why is my dog acting up in his cage?

MRey asked:
My dog used to like his cage. It was like his home. He would go in when he’s tired and he would eat in there and everything. But for some reason in the past few months he hates him cage. He barks like crazy in it and won’t sleep in it anymore. The only time he’s quite is when no ones home. How do I get him to sleep in it, stop barking ect.
Well I try to not put my dog in his cage for too long. I never use the cage as punishment. Usually if he wants out we let him out.

Well if you’ve use it as a type of punishment, that could be why… I’m not sure, sorry.

I never close my dog in a cage. The cage is where they go for peace and quite. But I think they would be upset if I closed the door. Then it becomes punishment. See if he will use it if you leave the door open.

Thats very odd. Did something happen in the crate that scared him? Did it get moved somwhere new?

How old is your dog? Do you still feed the dog in the crate? Did something traumatic happen while the dog was in the crate? The fact the dog is quiet in the crate when no one is home to let me out gives me the impression that he is playing you. If he barks, someone lets him out. He soon learns that he doesn’t have to stay there.
You might play some crate games with him. Short sessions at first. Put him in his crate, if he’s quiet, he gets a treat. He doesn’t come out of the crate when he’s barking.

maby his cage is too small and he needs more room or he might be sick of doing everything in his cage you should not feed him in in his cage for a few months and see what happens

If you have moved the cage, or he has had a scare while in it, it could cause problems. Maybe you had to be gone longer than normal while he was in there, and now he’s worried you wont come back. I would suggest a crate cover. It worked with my dogs. Don’t forget to reward him when he goes in and is good!
