Are dog shoes bad?

dog shoes
Orange asked:

I have a friend whose really into humiliating her pet schnauzer. She loves dressing him up and has just about everything anyone has made in doggy size. I was just wondering about these shoes she has for her dog. They’re little sneakers she got from a dog boutique. I told her I didn’t think they were good for him because I thought dogs had padded feet for a reason and he’ll probably slip around like crazy. She says they’re okay because they have treads on the bottom. Is there really any harm to be done to the poor dog while wearing shoes?

Probably not. They’ll just make him look pathetic.

the dog dislikes clothes altogether… I wouldn’t, it just makes the dog uncomfortable..

No harm, just unnecessary,… unless dog has a foot injury or it’s icy cold on sidewalks and she must walk dog.

No harm will come to the dog. The pads on their feet aren’t just to keep them from slipping but are also tough to make sure that running in grass and on concrete doesn’t hurt their feet. The doggie shoes if anything will give the pup a little more protection. The worse that can happen besides the poor animal feeling stupid is that the shoes will feel funny and he won’t really like wearing them. However they aren’t hazardous to his health in any way.

Some dogs need protection for their paws this time of year because there is a lot of salt poured on the road which can burn their paws. Shoes may look silly to some, but its better for the dog to look silly than to have sore, irritated paws.

It depends on if the dog doesn’t like being dressed. All of my dogs where shoes to go out when the weather is nasty- you may think it looks stupid but it keeps their feet from being irritated by snow, ice- the bonus- I can take the shoes off at the door and no muddy prints.

Guess what - the is not feeling humiliated. He probably enjoys the attention. Relax.

The dog must walk on his feet most of the time or he will have foot problems.
