How can I stop my neighbors dog from barking?

dog barking
Baseball King! asked:

I talked with the neighbor and he could care less about the dog barking so I called the police the mutt still barks. Are there any good products that will stop this dog from barking. Humane Ideas?

Not your dog, nothing you can do.

Call animal control and find out if there are any dog-barking laws in your area. There are in mine.

They make those bark collars that zap the dog when he barks. The owner will have to agree to it though. Maybe the owner doesn’t know what to do or doesn’t want to pay for the collar? Maybe if you offered????

well yeah, but i dont think you, as a neighbor, could use any of these products. i know a lot of people that ****** their dog with water when it barks, or they shake a pringles can when it barks, or they blow a horn or something like that to scare and distract him from barking. I don’t know how you could make use of any of that stuff though. I could continue to contact the authorities. Perhaps they can eventually fine the dogs’ owner.

Complain to your neighbors. I know it might seem stupid but thats what I’d do. I know this next idea would seem a little immature but what I’d do was make some kind of annoying noise that you know your neighbors wouldn’t like. and If they say anything to you about it ask them about their dog and tell them you dont like their dogs noise, and If they want you to stop making noise, tell them to keep their dog from making noise.

You yourself probably can’t do anything being that it’s not your dog. If it’s barking at like 3 or 4 am…..call the cops. But other than that, I’d say that you have no control over how much that dog barks, you’ll just have to deal with it.

Actually, call the police again, and again. By the time they make their fourth trip to the house for nuisance barking they give a nice $68 ticket to the owner. And the next trip out they do the same thing. You need to keep reporting the barking - once a day is fine, not multiple times during the day.

Dogs who don’t stop barking, and that are barking when the police show up, will get their owner tickets for disturbances.

I’ve never tried this device, but I seen it at petsupplyhouse.com, and I thought at the time that it might have applications in ‘neighbours’ dog cases, maybe it actually works.
